Lady Na Master and the Synaptic Room began as an experimental collaboration between artists in Ireland and in the United States. Over the course of a year and many design and production meetings held via Zoom, an installation and performance project was born in which every member had an equal creative voice in the final outcome.
In April 2018, American artists traveled to Dublin to workshop elements of the production, which eventually centered around the spoken word poetry of rising Irish artist Felicia Olusanya and musician Dan Reid.
Using the unique space of the Boys School theatre at Smock Alley, we created an installation that invited the audience into the mind of a woman to experience what it might feel like to push against the boundaries her world has set for her and attempt to define her emotions and life on her own terms.
